Event Descriptions 1:00 - 2:00 pm A First-Year's Guide to Engineering at CMU- Hosted by Society of Women Engineers
Come and hear about the first year of engineering at CMU from members of the Society of Women Engineers! We will have a group discussion about SWE and engineering in general and then split into smaller groups based on intended major where first-year students can get more specific advice and ask questions. Asian Student Association is a great way to meet new people and get connected with upperclassmen! Join us at our Icebreaker-themed Bingo game this weekend to get to know each other better and learn how to get involved in ASA. CMIMC Trivia "Night"!! Let's play some "trivia!" We'll have some trivia (and a bit of math) based estimation questions, leading into a round where you estimate your confidence on general trivia questions! Get to Know CMU Bhangra CMU Bhangra is a dance team that competes around the country, recently placing 2nd at the collegiate national championships! Come join us to learn more about Bhangra. Getting to Know Chinese Bible Study Fellowship (CBSF) We are a mandarin speaking bible study fellowship with small groups for both undergraduate and graduate students. Sustainability at CMU Join Sustainable Earth, CMU’s primary environmental student organization, for a fun trivia game about sustainable practices on campus and in Pittsburgh, and to learn about sustainability efforts at CMU, environmental justice, and how sustainable practices can be incorporated into student life! The History of the Kiltie Band Carnegie Mellon's Kiltie Band is one of our campus's oldest and richest organizations. Join us as we take a historical look back into over a century of music, tradition, and fun had by the band without pants! Breakout sessions will then be held for each section to allow students to meet fellow musicians and chat with upperclassmen in an informal space. The Opening Ceremony with Model UN During Model UN conferences, the host body holds an opening ceremony in order to welcome everyone who has decided to attend. Even in the virtual space we can still find a way to welcome each other into this new environment, and with all the ways that the world is changing around us, we should all help form a resilient community that is able to withstand the issues that surround us.

Interactive case studies and informational videos. EWB CMU has 4 projects: Agriculture, Zimbabwe, PEThatch, and Drones. Prior to having the interactive session we will have a 5 minute video outlining each project's goals for the upcoming semester. Each of the projects will propose a different realistic case experience to the incoming freshmen to solve. Through this interactive case study experience incoming freshmen will understand how to express their ideas in a collaborative environment, grow their creative problem solving skills, and experience what it's like to be in EWB. Icebreakers and Games with Mr. Yuk! Mr. Yuk is the men's club ultimate frisbee team on campus, and we also have a B/developmental team known as Poison Control. We won't be practicing or playing until it's safe to do so, but we'd love to get to know you prospective frisbee junkies virtually for now. Klesis Virtual Welcome Night

STEM with the CMU Science Olympiad team
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to hosting Science Olympiad invitational tournaments at Carnegie Mellon University. Science Olympiad is a national organization that seeks to inspire interest in STEM among youth through competitions in disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and engineering. This year will be unlike any other year in that we will be hosting a remote competition, likely in early January. At this info session, we’ll be explaining our model for hosting tournaments and playing a game of Kahoot!, in which you’ll get a glimpse at the types of competition questions we write. How many HIV viruses does it take to cover one side of a dime? How are alligators different from crocodiles? What is the effect of aspirin on the heart? Zoom in to find out :) All experience levels are welcome, you don't need to have had any prior experience competing or hosting for SciOly!
